This  audiovisual essay deals with the historical evolution of the sitcom subgenre, as well as its main formal and narrative characteristics. It traces a historical analysis of its different periods until the 1990s. The video essay delves into its characteristics using the television fiction Friends (NBC, 1994-2004) as the main case study. Thus, it systematically analyzes its main elements, focusing on the importance of certain iconic and stable e spaces, characters that follow defined patterns to maximize their comicality or the flat and uniform lighting system.
